Mid-Century Canoe Brook

FULLROOM.jpg
These first time home buyers were pushed out of their traditional decor comfort zone when they bought this amazing 1950’s mid-century modern home in Summit. Excluding the piano, dining table and dining room carpet, the open-concept space was a blank canvas and I was lucky enough that they trusted me with the project!
We knew that we wanted the space to be a cool, yet cozy spot used for relaxing and entertaining friends and family. A comfy and chic sofa was a must, and we decided on a beautiful transitional chestnut leather one. It's the perfect anchor to the room and we worked off of it. Next came the contemporary armchairs that almost have a futuristic feel to them. They were a great color next to the walls, a beautiful textured fabric and the ideal size for the space.
The owners and I thought of bringing in a curve ball and adding a traditional oriental rug to the space to warm it up. We added the built in’s and painted them in Benjamin Moore “Hale Navy” to add some depth and dimension to the room. They look like they were meant to be there and are the perfect counterpart to the existing piano.

This leather sofa is going to be able to move from house to house with this family. It’s sturdy, comfortable, beautiful and timeless. The floor lamp is perfect for reading at night, and is another layer of lighting.

The side chairs have beautiful mid-century modern lines to them.

The petite lumbar pillows are made of vintage turkish rugs - no two are alike! They married the room's carpeting and chairs together perfectly.

An added bonus to the built-ins is the storage on the bottom, perfect for hiding puzzles and toys!

DININGROOM.jpg

I love conversation starters. This art piece captures everyone's attention and always gets people talking.

I love this dining room! It's the perfect size and isn’t too formal. The addition of new dining chairs and an amazing new lighting fixture completely changed the vibe of the whole space. When I stumbled upon this piece of art, I knew I had to get it. It reminded me of my clients love for the beach and their love for classic movies.
When it comes to art, always find something that speaks to you, and it will never go out of style.
A new mid-century sideboard was a must to hold the clients china and serveware. Adding a lamp on top of the sideboard gives the space an extra layer of light and sparkle. This moody and eclectic room is perfect for entertaining friends and family.

When designing a space I love to think about the future holidays and celebrations that’ll be held there. This room has already seen a birthday party and was dubbed the “Mad Men Room” by the clients family members - I love it! I hope they enjoy many more years of happy occasions in the “Mad Men Room”!
